Video Hero allows you to track how much of a specific video your subscribers have watched and then send that information back to your email marketing platform or CRM.

For example, you could use Video Hero to:

  • Tag somebody when they reach the offer section of a VSL.
  • Track whether somebody watched a certain amount of a webinar.
  • Start a follow-up sequence after somebody reaches a specific point in a video.
  • Track whether somebody has completed a training video.

Setting Up Your Video Hero:

  1. Create a new Video Hero, select your integration and give your Hero a clear name. You can also add a label if required to make it easier to organise your Heroes.

  2. In the Page Containing The Video field, paste the URL of the webpage where your video is hosted. For example, this might be your:

    • VSL page.
    • Webinar replay page.
    • Training page.
    • Sales page.

  3. (OPTIONAL) If the page contains multiple videos, use the Video Name field to help Video Hero identify the correct one. If there is only one video on the page, you can normally leave this field blank.

  4. (OPTIONAL) Enable Forward Email Address To The Page if you would like the subscriber's email address to remain available in the URL when they land on the page. This can be useful for things such as pre-filling forms or checkout pages.

  5. Set your first Trigger Duration using the hours, minutes and seconds fields. For example, if you want something to happen when somebody reaches five minutes into your video, enter 5 into the minutes field.

  6. Choose the Action that should happen when the subscriber reaches that point. The available actions will depend on the email marketing platform or CRM you've connected. These may include things such as:

    • Assign a tag.
    • Remove a tag.
    • Update a field.
    • Add/remove somebody from a list.

  7. Select the relevant Target for that action. For example, if you've selected Assign A Tag, select the tag that should be applied.

  8. If you'd like several things to happen from the same trigger, click the blue + button to add additional actions.

  9. If you'd like to track several points throughout the video, click Add Another Trigger. For example, you could track:

    • 10 seconds - Started Watching.
    • 2 minutes - Watched 2 Minutes.
    • 5 minutes - Reached Offer.
    • End of video - Completed Video.

  10. You can add as many triggers as your campaign requires.

  11. Click Save & Get Code.

  12. Copy the relevant embed code and add it to the page containing your video. You'll normally see separate code for:
  • A regular webpage.
  • A membership site.

(Use the version that matches where your video is hosted.)

IMPORTANT: If the Video Hero code is not installed on the page, Video Hero will not be able to track the video.

  1. Publish your webpage after adding the code.

Triggering Your Video Hero:

Video Hero needs to know which subscriber is watching the video so that it can send the correct information back to your email platform. Depending on your integration, you'll normally have two main options:

Thank You Page URL

Use this when somebody is being sent to the video after completing a form.

For example: Subscriber completes form → Video Hero link → Video Page.

Link Click URL

Use this when linking somebody to the video from an email. Paste the Link Click URL into your email instead of the normal URL of the video page. This allows AutomateHero to identify the subscriber before taking them to the page.

Testing Your Video Hero:

You can enable Test Mode while setting up your Hero. When testing, you'll see an indicator in the top-left of the video which will flash red when one of your configured triggers occurs.

Once you've confirmed everything is working:

  • Turn Test Mode OFF.
  • Make sure your Hero is Active.
  • Save your changes.

Video Hero Not Working?

If your Video Hero isn't detecting the video or firing your triggers, check:

  • The correct embed code has been added to the page.
  • You've published the latest version of the page.
  • You've entered the correct page URL.
  • Your website isn't delaying the AutomateHero code.
  • A plugin, optimisation tool or other third-party script isn't preventing the code from running.

And that's it - your Video Hero is ready to go!
